How do I remove an odor in a mattress and box springs?
I bought a used pillow top mattress and box spring that looked bran new. There were no worn marks or stains. It was an option with the Antique French Furniture we just bought for the spare room. Once my husband brought it home I smelled the ma tress and noticed an odor that I just can’t place. So I used vinegar and water then let it dry, I used my steam mop and steamed all sides of both and then used baking soda. No odor, or so I thought. After awhile, it returns but not as strong as before. My husband says to just toss it out but I would like to know what could be the problem and a possible solution, first. Maybe it was stored in a warehouse and it is a musky odor but if anyone has any thought besides toss it, I would appreciate it. If nothing works I will toss it. Thank you. Please be specific.
Upholstery cleaner (one with odor remover) and fresh air and sunshine would be best, if that’s not possible, Febreze the heck out of it, put in front of a fan and open window. 24 hours should do it.
