What is the best kind of paint to use when painting a dining room table?
I’m thinking about sanding down my dining room table and painting it…giving it a distressed look. My home is filled with antiques and primitives. Since the dining room table gets a lot of traffic, I’m wondering what the best kind of paint and sealer would be to use on it?
Do you want it painted or stained and varnished?
I have painted and antiqued several pieces of furniture for my wife. I have always used an oil based paint. Usually a semigloss paint. Then antiqued with a stain of the appropriate shade and then applied three coats of a wipe on polyurethane varnish. Usually a satin finish or a semigloss. I put on two coats of the wipe on poly before I use any steel wool. After two coats I use a 0000 steel wool wiping very lightly to remove any dust particles and then put on one final coat.
